Ampacity	55 A (NEC Table 310.16, 60 C column)
Largest breaker	55 A, or the next standard size up where NEC 240.4(B) allows
Voltage drop at 100 ft	5.40 V, 2.3 percent at 55 A and 240 V single phase
Run length for 3 percent drop	About 130 ft one way at 55 A and 240 V

What breaker can 6/3 NM-B Copper Cable go on?: Its ampacity is 55 A (60 C column of NEC Table 310.16). The breaker can be that size, or the next standard size up where NEC 240.4(B) allows it. Derate first for more than three current-carrying conductors or high ambient heat.
How far can I run it before voltage drop is a problem?: At 55 A on a 240 V single phase circuit, about 130 ft one way keeps the drop at 3 percent, the figure an informational note to NEC 210.19(A) suggests for branch circuits. Try other loads in the voltage drop calculator.
Can it be buried directly in the ground?: No, and not in underground conduit either: conduit below grade is a wet location, and NEC 334.12 keeps NM cable out of wet and damp locations. Use UF-B, or wet-rated conductors such as THWN-2 or XHHW-2 in conduit.
Can I buy it by the foot?: Yes, cut to length in whole feet from 25 ft, or on 125, 500, 1,000, 2,500 ft spools. Cut wire is final sale; uncut spools can be returned within 30 days.
